📋 Publishing Guidelines

Share only files you own or are licensed to distribute. Use public links for genuine distribution rather than mass link-seeding. Expect throttling if a link is downloaded heavily within 24 hours, and keep total link bandwidth within the free-plan allowance.

💳 Free Plan Details

Dropbox Basic is free with 2 GB of storage. Shared links can be opened by anyone without a Dropbox account, and viewers can preview 175+ file types in the browser. Link bandwidth is capped and heavily-hit links are throttled.

👍 Best For

Distributing documents, media kits, PDFs, images and video via a public link; delivering large files to an audience that has no account.

👎 Not Good For

Child sexual exploitative material, unlawful pornography, extreme violence or terrorist content, and material advocating bigotry, hatred or incitement of violence against protected groups. Sharing files you do not hold copyright in is prohibited. Fundamentally NOT a publishing platform: there is no public profile, no discovery feed, no audience-building surface and no web page hosting, so it cannot replace a blog or directory listing.

⚠️ Common Blocking & Rejection Reasons

Copyright complaints on shared files, exceeding shared-link bandwidth limits, links downloaded too many times in 24 hours, prohibited content categories, distributing malware.

🛡 Moderation Notes

Sharing can be suspended independently of the account; the help centre documents a banned-links flow and a copyright policy with a counter-notice route.

🔍 SEO & Public Visibility

Shared links are reachable without login but are not designed for indexing and carry no profile or discovery surface. Treat as a file-delivery endpoint, not an SEO or audience channel.
