Use it as a private journal first. If you need an entry to be publicly readable, share that entry deliberately - sharing grants Penzu additional rights to display and distribute that specific content as you direct. Note that Pro encrypted entries cannot be recovered if the password is lost.

Free Basic plan with unlimited entries, mobile apps, basic customization and writing reminders, no credit card required. Entries are private by default; individual entries can be shared. Pro tiers add 256-bit AES encryption, custom designs and PDF export.
👍 Best For
Private journaling, diaries, reflective writing, draft writing kept off the public web, and occasional selective sharing of a single entry.
👎 Not Good For
Public audience building of any kind. Penzu is private by design - the operator states that privacy is its primary concern and that only the author can see entries unless explicitly shared. There is no public feed, profile, blog surface or discovery mechanism, so it cannot serve as a publishing, marketing or SEO channel. Also prohibited: harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory or otherwise objectionable content, IP infringement, malware, bots and impersonation.
Violations may result in content removal and account suspension. Because entries are private by default, moderation exposure is minimal in normal use.
